Restauration of Mosque

Agdam 2023

Client: Heydar Aliyev Foundation

The Mosque in Agdam was built between 1868 and 1870 by the architect Karbalai Safikhan Karabaghi. The mosque is the only building in the city that was spared complete destruction after the war in the early 1990s. It is therefore not only a historically and architecturally valuable building whose obvious damage is in need of restoration. The aim of the restoration campaign is therefore primarily to return the mosque to a functional building that fulfils the requirements of daily religious practices and has remained alive in the memories of the city’s former inhabitants over the years.

PARTNER C+P and the restorers from Brugger & ko were commissioned as general contractors for the restoration. In a region like Nagorno-Karabakh, this was a very challenging task.
